LifeSize – Video conference solutions
LifeSize, the subsidiary of Logitech, recently introduced a new video conference solution named Icon. The new video conference series benefits from an easy-to-use user surface, which is supposed to eliminate problems with starting and managing video conferences. Video conferencing should become easier by using Icon.
LifeSize video conference series
With the Icon-series LifeSize, founded as a single company in 2003 and merged with Logitech in 2009, adds a series to its products that focusses on user experience. Previous products had their focus on improvements in the area of Telepresence quality and making video conferences accessibly via mobile devices and in the cloud.
LifeSize Icon series – being flexible
Based on previous series the Icon series includes features like streaming and recording functions, a firewall traversal as well as a management solution and offers its users the possibility to start multiparty video conferences. As video conferencing is fully integrated in the existing LifeSize UVC platform it is made easy to users to explore the whole potential of the Icon video conference solution. By using the UVC platform companies are more flexible in their decisions which applications are needed in the company and which applications not. The ordering of suitable applications has become much easier. Furthermore companies benefit from an enhanced IT support.
LifeSize Icon series – being organised
The new LifeSize Icon series includes a whole range of new functions which improve the user experience. The navigation through the address directory has been made quicker and more efficient – In only a few seconds Icon creates a stable connection to another person. Furthermore LifeSize improved the calendar tool which is directly linked to the management of video conferences – the whole agenda can be seen in an overview.

Streaming and recording has been made easier. Hence users can stream a video conference or watch recorded video conferences with a single mouse click. Like video conference solutions before the Icon series offers multiparty video conferencing – several participants are smoothly integrated into one video call. To make video conferencing enjoyable Icon has similar to other LifeSize products its strength in Telepresence quality with a frame rate of up to 60 images per second and video conferencing as well as data sharing in high definition.

Video conference – Polycom Solutions in 2013
As one of the three market leaders in video communication Polycom announced a large-scale restructuring of its portfolio for 2013, with the main goal being to make video conferences ready for a mass adoption of video collaboration. The revised portfolio includes new software and hardware as well as platform enhancements; all focussing on easy connections with external participants and multipoint conferences as well as a cost-effective way to make video conferences applicable for everyday communication.
Interconnectivity with CloudAXIS Suite
With the new CloudAXIS Suite Polycom revises its earlier platform Polycom’s RealPresence (RPP). Users of CloudAXIS are able to integrate contacts using Skype, Facebook or GoogleTalk into a video conference. A contact from a presence based video application can be moved – per drag and drop – into a Polycom folder on the desktop. The external user is then invited to join the video conference which is opened in a new browser window. Thus easy accessible video conferencing is possible across different applications and with almost everyone, who has internet access, a mobile device and uses one of the most common network and communication platforms.
Multipoint Video Conferences with Open SVC standard
The update to CloudAXIS Suite is combined with the implementation of SVC technology. Scalable Video Coding is the most modern industry standard for transferring data. The key advantage of SVC in comparison to the prior standard AVC is an improved bandwidth management. Data packages are given different priorities, depending on the importance of sending the package’s data. In case the available bandwidth is not ideal packages with a lower priority are not sent, whereas packages with a higher priority are still transferred. Hence video conferences are not interrupted; the quality might decrease in case the bandwidth decreases but the core video conference is still available. By using SVC the number of endpoints increases from a maximum of ten up to 30 high definition endpoints, and HD video communication is accessible on a mobile device.
Enjoyable usability with user experience (UX) enhancements
In addition Polycom announced several enhancements regarding the experience for the video conference user. One of the new tools is called SmartPairing. It enables users to transfer a video conference from a tablet screen to a bigger video conference screen – with a single swipe of a finger. The tablet can afterwards still be used as a remote control. This is only one of the little tools enhancing the usability of Polycom’s video conferences. Other improvements refer to the frame rate of high definition video conferences, which is from 30fps increased to 60fps, and the audio quality, which is upgraded by new NoiseCancel technology that is said to automatically even out noises in the conversation.

Das Zusammenfassen von Informationen aus Festnetz- und Internet-Telefonie, E-Mail- und Chat-Verkehr in Unified-Communications hat viele Vorteile. Der Anrufer erkennt, auf welchem Kanal sein Ansprechpartner erreichbar ist. Wenn er sieht, dass das Telefon besetzt ist, kann er stattdessen beispielsweise eine E-Mail senden.
Ist ein gesuchter Gesprächspartner gar nicht verfügbar, kann der Anrufer im Programm einen Vertreter finden und sehen, ob er beispielsweise mobil erreichbar ist. Diese Sammel-Kommunikation per Unified-Communications lässt sich auf Endgeräten wie PC, Laptop, Smartphone und Tablet-PC einrichten.

Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 4th quarter (4Q12) and year-end Enterprise Telepresence and Video Conferencing Equipment report, which tracks dedicated and PBX-based video conferencing and telepresence infrastructure and endpoints (desktop, immersive telepresence, videophones, multipurpose rooms, and software).

Content-Sharing-Suite
Die ab sofort verfügbare Realpresence Content Sharing Suite ist eine Software-Anwendung für die Softwareinfrastruktur der Polycom-Realpresence-Plattform. Mit ihr können Lync-Nutzer Inhalte über standardbasierende Video-Collaboration-Geräte wie raumbasierende Videolösungen oder mobile Apps teilen. Dokumente und Präsentationen sollen dabei über einen separaten Content-Video-Stream weitergegeben werden. Dies würde eine Darstellung der Inhalte in hoher Auflösung und gleichzeitig eine größere Ansicht der Gesprächspartner erlauben.
Interoperable Möglichkeiten
Polycom bietet 40 Lösungen an, deren Interoperabilität mit Microsoft Lync 2010 offiziell zertifiziert ist. Darunter fallen Produkte der Polycom-CX-Familie, die eine kundenspezifische Lync-Integration ermöglichen. Auch die jüngsten HD-Video-Collaboration-Systeme der Polycom-Realpresence-Group-Serie (300, 500 und 700) sind mit Microsoft Lync 2010 kompatibel. Sie beinhalten eine neue Benutzeroberfläche und bieten HD-Video-, Content-Sharing- (bis zu 1.080p60) und Audiofunktionen.
Crestron holt Microsoft Lync in den Konferenzraum
Crestron, ein Anbieter für Automations- und Steuerungslösungen, hat gemeinsam mit Microsoft ein Meetingpaket mit Videounterstützung für Konferenzräume entwickelt.
Die Lösung Crestron RL bietet alle Funktionen von Microsoft Lync 2013, einschließlich HD-Videounterstützung, Multipoint-Konferenzen sowie auch vielfältige Präsentationsmöglichkeiten wie die Darstellung von Powerpoint-Dateien, das Teilen von Desktopanwendungen und interaktives Whiteboarding. Besprechungen lassen sich über die Integration von Microsoft Outlook planen. Eine Besprechungsteilnahme vor Ort ist über nur einen Tastendruck am Bedienpanel möglich. Von anderen Standorten aus kann an der Besprechung mit Microsoft Lync, ohne den Einsatz von besonderen Gateways, teilgenommen werden.
