Hybrid working forces Bring-your-own-Meeting (BYOM)

The way it will take shape may still be uncertain, but one thing is fairly certain. Hybrid working will continue to be with us in the future. Gartner expects the proportion of face-to-face meetings in companies to fall from 60 to 25 percent by 2024 – and attributes this primarily to remote working and changing demographics (high proportion of millenials in the working population). It can be assumed that in the future, too, there will often be at least one remote call partner.

As more and more workplaces become hybrid in this respect, meeting rooms must support interoperability. It is important that meeting rooms are compatible with different solutions (MS Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, etc.).

BYOM is the new BYOD

Bring-your-own-meeting (BYOM) is a natural evolution of bring-your-own-device (BYOD). You use your own laptop or tablet etc. to hold a video conference and can use your preferred video conferencing platform (Teams, Zoom, Webex ). At the same time, you benefit from the existing infrastructure of the conference room – i.e. the available audio and video equipment. You connect wirelessly with your device to the meeting room screen.

Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams and Zoom, for example, offer wireless authentication methods that automatically identify the employee using the digital twin in the UCC client. For example, if an employee comes into the meeting room with their smartphone, they can transfer their conversation directly to the room systems for convenient continuation.
What makes BYOM and BYOD so popular with employees?

Quite simple really, humans are creatures of habit. As early as 20210, Intel noted in a study that 60 percent of Generation Y (people born between 1980 and the late ’90s) and 50 percent of those in their thirties believed that the technology tools they used privately were more effective and useful than those they used at work. Most people in the pandemic designed video conferences from their own laptops in the home office, got used to using them and the tools via their own computers, and therefore also often preferred a solution that was intuitive and easy for them to use.

Solution Poly to the Log4J vulnerability

Update on the Log4J vulnerability:

In the course of the Log4J vulnerability, Poly has now informed us of a way to secure DMA Core and DMA Edge. To do this, it is necessary to access the DMA core and edge via SSH.

According to Poly, these steps, which are carried out manually, are the same steps that are also carried out at a later date by a software update. This is therefore a permanent fix supported by Poly and not a workaround.

It will take approximately 30 minutes per unit to complete. Please ensure that access to the DMA core and edge is allowed via port 22 on the firewall if you want us to perform the activity for you.

What kind of work is well suited to be performed in a home office?

Most of the discussion in the media centers on the above-mentioned question of the hybrid work model – in other words, how many days should an employee spend in the office? In the process, another important question often falls by the wayside, because it is also crucial which work should the employee do in the home office and which in the office?

Depending on the scope of this work, the time spent working in the office or in the home office should be the right choice!

Our tip: Analyze on an employee or department basis the individual work packages according to whether they should be done in the home office or in the office and then decide how much home office is possible.

Hybrid events continue to be the trend

The trend toward hybrid and spatially distributed events will continue to grow from the current situation, predicts the Meeting and Event Barometer based on its study results. People will return to face-to-face events, but in many cases they will be extended virtually, allowing them to tap into larger communities. Many providers in Germany as a meeting and congress location are already responding accordingly:
For example, half of the event centers, conference hotels and event locations surveyed for the EITW study stated that they had invested in technology for hybrid or digital formats as a result of Corona. The other half had already been equipped with this before. In addition to the necessary technical infrastructure, the optimal design of the participant experience will be even more important in the future.

The Meeting & EventBarometer is the only study that examines the entire event market in Germany and paints a meaningful picture of this industry. Initiators are the European Association of Event Centers e.V. (EVVC), the GCB German Convention Bureau e.V. and the German National Tourist Board e.V. (GNTB).

Hybrid events in previous years

Before Corona, 47 percent of respondents answered that virtual formats were “expandable.” A short time later, that number was already at 75 percent.

Hybrid events in 2020

In 2020, the main occasion for virtual or hybrid events in Germany was primarily a conference or congress. This was stated for around 57 percent of the events in question. This was followed by a wide margin by trade fairs and in-house exhibitions or product presentations as the occasion for the event.

Microsoft Teams is one of the most popular communication tools in the office environment. However, there are differences in the range of functions between the certified room systems Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTRoW) on Windows and Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTRoA) on Android. The “parent system” is of course MTR Windows (after all, it is a Microsoft product) – so basically many features are available in the Windows variant first.
